Puppy Fun!

Aside from my unpleasant reminder of Max's mortality today, I did have some fun with Starlet and Vic.  Okay mostly with Vic, since Starlet was unfilmed and most of it was spent reminding her that 12 weaves poles in a row, means she has to do 12 weave poles, 10 isn't close enough....  Kate came up with the very-soon-to-debut Power.  I'm planning on driving down Sunday to watch her at her debut show.  Powwow is so cute!  Vic still holds his breath when I say Power or any variation of her name.  Face to face, he's a bit shy around her, all that energy is intimidating.  ;-)  One of these days (I'm hoping next weekend), I'll figure out how to download the old video I have of Vic and Power at 8 and 7 weeks.  It's ADORABLE!!!!  Power's sister Fly, (aka Whitey or The White Puppy aka The Puppy That Could Have Been) made her debut last weekend and won both her classes!  Yay to the White Puppy!

Having Kate around has been very fun!  I'm going to try and start going to Somis early on Tuesdays, so we can get together for puppy training.  Between Kristi and Kate, I may be the luckiest person ever for training buddies!

Vic was super once again.  He's so easy to run, aside from weave entries (which haven't been trained at all), all the mistakes are mine and inevitably come back to over-handling.  He doesn't need nearly as much help as I want to offer.  :-)  So here's some lazily put together video from today.  :-)

Vic is such a good boy:-) Love watching you two play.
Thanks! He is such a good time!
Wow! too much fun! So, is Vic Powers littermate as well?

Also--is that a public park that you set up equipment in, or is it a training facility? Just wondering--cuz we got too tired of setting things up--and are looking for a permanent barn, not a field, cuz then we'd have to mow it!

Sure wish I had somewhere besides my front yard right now!!! Most people don't realize I live in the boonies, and have to practice where and when I can--always outdoors.

I did find a barn yesterday--but the surface is rock hard...I left a note asking if I could sublet it, as I don't think they use it much--this lady just rents the horse barn and pasture for her horses. If so, then I'd have to figure out how to fix the surface--with some tilling, sawdust, etc. We'll see...soon it will be summer and we CAN practice outside in our arena at Riverview Kennels. You are LUCKY!
The quest for a good practice place doesn't sound like fun. For some reason, in my head Oregon is full of empty barns waiting for agility equipment...

The past couple Vic videos have been at our local park. It's totally a public park (there's usually some form of AYSO or Little League going on, plus endless numbers of walking dogs/joggers). We keep the club trailer there, so it's just a matter of setting up equipment, instead of having to haul the trailer every time. And being Santa Barbara there are only a few weeks out of the year that we can't practice outside. Definitely lucky. I teach at a couple trainer centers as well, which are really nice, but I think the public park practicing has been invaluable for Vic's ability to tolerate extreme distractions. :-)

Vic isn't related to Power. I was supposed to get one of Power's littermates, but after a difficult whelping only 2 puppies survived (P-Wow and The White Puppy). Kate was willing to bump people so I could get Whitey, but she wanted to keep breeding rights on her (which I totally understand) and I didn't want to have a female that could be bred. If Whitey had been a boy or if another puppy or two had survived, I'm sure she would have been mine. Instead, some friends pointed me towards Vic's breeder and the rest is history. It is funny that I was so convinced I needed to know the puppies from birth, when I was getting a Quick puppy, but ended up getting one that I only saw on a webcam. No complaints here, things have definitely worked out as they were meant to. :-)
